3 Steps to

FINDING THE RIGHT THERAPY

and

FINDING THE RIGHT THERAPIST

People seek complimentary, alternative and natural solutions for their health and well being for many different reasons.  The following page is intended as a guide to help steer you in a direction that is right for you.  If you are new to the fields of complimentary, alternative and natural healing and therapies the following 3 steps may be a helpful guide.

STEP 1: FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THERAPY OPTIONS

A good start for everyone is to find out more about different types of therapies.  You can start this by reading the A-Z of therapies on this website.  Here you will find a brief overview of each therapy.  If you wish to find out more the A-Z will guide you.

You could also look in the list of practitioners and make contact with someone who will be glad to talk to you about their therapeutic approach.  You can also contact other relevant websites found on our links page or by visiting the therapist's individual sites.

STEP 2: FIND OUT WHICH THERAPIES WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS.

Some people seek out therapies for specific conditions and others for more general reasons such as relaxation of reducing stress.  For whatever reason you are seeking a complimentary, alternative or natural therapy it would be helpful for you to have an idea of which therapies may help.  To help with this you can consult our guide on the page entitled 'Which Therapy' or you could perhaps contact a practitioner from the 'therapist register' and ask them directly how their therapeutic approach might help you.

STEP 3:  FIND A THERAPIST

You can find a locally practicing therapist by looking at the directory of therapists on this website.  Start by looking in your local region or county.  To narrow down the search you can look under the local town or, if you need to, you can broaden your search until you find a therapist from further a field.  You will find that some therapists registered with us will have links to their own websites where you can find out more about them if you need to.

After this it is down to you to make contact with your chosen therapist.

SOME IMPORTANT POINTS TO REMEMBER WHEN SEEKING A THERAPIST.

Complimentary therapies 'compliment' the work of medical doctors.  For this reason it is always wise to consult your G.P. and discuss your intentions, particularly if you have any chronic, acute or life threatening health issues. Some symptoms need medical diagnosis because they can herald the onset of conditions that may be medically serious.

Most complimentary healers are not qualified to make medical diagnosis.

As a client of any therapist it is wise for you to check their qualifications yourself.  A qualified therapist will also be a member of a professional body and be insured to practice in the public domain.

The most important part of a therapeutic relationship is rapport and trust between patient and therapist.  Check out their confidentiality policy.  Ask questions about the therapy and make sure you feel comfortable with the feeling and the atmosphere of the therapy centre / room and the therapist.

Ask if the practitioner has treated the condition before and how they may help.  Ask how long the treatment will take, how much the session will cost, what is involved and also ask about any possible effects of the treatment.

When YOU are satisfied YOU make the choice.

As the client you need to decide for yourself whether a particular therapist or therapy is right for you.  Unfortunately we cannot do this for you.  The Therapy Directory is here to help guide you toward the right solution but it is you who ultimately needs to decide for yourself what direction you wish to take.
