Assertiveness
Assertiveness is a state of being that enables a person to function in the world in an emotionally healthy way. Either side of assertiveness is passive and aggressive and both of these states involve low self esteem, low self-confidence and high degrees of stress and fear. The passive person finds it hard to stand up for themselves and often feels that they are ‘to blame’. They put themselves second to the needs of others and often believe others to be better and more deserving than themselves. The aggressive person often needs to win and tends to put others down and blame others to maintain their position (which is also often motivated by low confidence and esteem). The state of assertiveness is about achieving personal confidence, enjoying who you are, self-control, reduced stress, increased esteem, personal honesty and all the benefits that come from all of these.
